a few things,
sumu.
from the bear you keep annoying
a note for todayI showed you the pages I wrote when I was alone.
These are the things I want to say to you now.
i love you through all of it.
From every bad picture you have of me to every time I scream “Sumer, get out!” when you come into the washroom while I’m on the toilet—you should know I love you through all of it.
You’ve made me experience something I didn’t think I ever could. I always feel so seen with you. When you’re making me laugh. When you’re annoying me. When you’re annoying me sooo much I’m about to cry. And when you’ve pushed it too far, I’ve gotten sad, and you give me a hug and say, “come here.”
We do all of that together. I’m never out of what’s on your mind, or you mine. Love needs to be shown constantly: through attention, affection, playfulness, fighting and being there for the person. I truly believe we love each other like that.
the “come here” gets me. every time.
you want me to just relax.
You never let me get up because you don’t want me to do any work. You just want me to relax… because it makes you happy.
And the kisses we send each other through the air, every time we’re on a video call. I love that we do that.
you keep showing up.
On the night of 11 September, I didn’t have my visa and couldn’t fly to Milan. You had already checked in for Hong Kong. You saw how sad I was, cancelled your flight and stayed back with me.
If that isn’t the sweetest thing, I don’t know what is. The first time you came to meet me from Hong Kong. The time you stayed a month in Delhi to be with me. And now cancelling your flight because I was too sad.
Those are just some of the ways you’ve shown me what it looks like when someone shows up for you constantly.
you’ve made me lighter.
I sent you this on your way to Hong Kong, eleven minutes before our official anniversary:
What I meant was that your jokes, your laughs—everything about you—have made me lighter. Step by step and day by day, you choose to be kind, patient and sooo annoying. Usually just to get a reaction out of me, followed by that funny, weird “oh nooo” Sumu face.
It makes me happy. You make me happy. Every day, and constantly.
i’m growing with you.
You’ve taught me how to vibe code, and that’s literally not even what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about the times you told me to share when I only knew how to hold it in. You’ve taught me to be calmer, softer to myself, kinder to others and, of course, patient—because you’re constantly annoying me.
Watching you grow and go through life has been an absolute pleasure. You’re truly an extraordinary person, Sumer. It shows in your work, in the way you are with me, and with the people closest to you.
If you do something, you hit it out of the park. Otherwise, what’s the point? Dream big and think big. Your boldness in your decisions, your confidence in your hard work, and that stupidly creative mind you go through life with inspire me constantly.
Somehow you do all of that while being there for me and still being the stupidest person I know.
still working on the patience, by the way.
